It’s because the fans have no idea what they want. The second a background character gets even a single serious line, everyone’s gonna go apeshit over how badly it ruined one of the many conflicting fandoms. It’s like Luna. Everyone got angry when 30 seconds of earlier footage didn’t match with the new episode. And it’ll be much, much worse when it’s a character with nothing to go by.
